College fests or money-spinners?
One of the joys of college life is participation in college fests and proving one’s mettle in some sphere. However, the unfortunate part is that participation in them comes at a heavy cost to the students.
These inter-college, annual affairs are now emerging as an occasion for the college management to make quick bucks. Labelling some on-stage performances as ‘offensive’, the authorities makes monetary demands from students to excuse such behaviour.
One of our Bangalore students recalls the frustration he experienced when two teams in the college were asked to pay Rs 38,000 totally with each student charged Rs 2,000. The blame levelled against them was that they had ruined the reputation of the college by indulging in vulgarity. Despite students showing a recording of their performance and reiterating that the name of the college had not been tarnished, they were forced to pay up by the authorities http://www.ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/paid-fine-participating-college-fest. For argument’s sake, even assuming the reputation got damaged, one is left wondering how the sum paid could restore a lost reputation!
Another engineering student from a city college recalls that he was asked to pay Rs 1,000 as bribe to college authorities to clear his attendance so that he could sit for exams. Since the all-important degree had to be procured, he was forced to succumb to the demands made http://www.ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/private-engg-college-asks-rs1000-subject-attendance.
Apart from the monetary loss suffered by the student’s family, the real damage is to the psyche of the youngster for he or she learns at this impressionable age that doling out money can set right many wrongs.
