NGOs forced to kowtow to corrupt babus

With corruption manoeuvring its way into every section of society, civil societies are fighting an uphill battle for survival.
A burning desire to contribute to society is not enough to accomplish your cherished altruistic venture. A respondent from Bareilly writes about how sincere efforts take a beating at the hands of corrupt babus.
The respondent wanted to open a free school for underprivileged children in his native town, Bareilly, in Uttar Pradesh. He wanted to register his new NGO. He reached the registrar office only to learn that the concerned official, along with his agent, a tea stall owner, demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000. Deals were also struck inside the tea shop.
When the tea stall owner learnt some details about the initiative, he reduced the amount to Rs 1,500. The respondent decided to pay up in the interest of his larger goal http://www.ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/had-pay-bribe-whole-office-registrar-societies-barielly-get-my-ngo-registerd-welfare
Another respondent from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, who chose not to pay a bribe has not been able to register his organisation till date. With an experience of 6 years in social service, he wanted to start up an NGO in the health sector in his hometown. His enthusiasm suffered a letdown at the hands of officers in the Registration department who demanded their pockets be filled. The officer did the final clearing while his agent-cum-colleague struck the deal. He has failed to register till date.
