Poll Analysis | Bribes for Certificates in Public Universities

Posted on July 04, 2012

I Paid a Bribe sees reports coming in about paying bribes for obtaining certificates from Public Universities. We conducted a poll on the site, Facebook and Twitter to understand better how common this malice is. Here's what the responses say:

Reports about Bribes paid in the Education Department

One reporter from Jhansi had to pay a bribe of Rs 5000 to obtain his marks cards and certificates.
A Mysore resident paid Rs 1700 for a marks card too!

In a bizarre turn of events for one reporter from Bangalore, the reporter and friends had to pay a fine of Rs 2000 for participating in a college fest! The reporter writes in that the team performed a mad ad and the principal claimed the "vulgar" ad would ruin the reputation of the college. This fine of Rs 2000/person was the principal's price for salvaging the ruined reputation.

Another reporter writes in from Anantpur about paying a bribe of Rs 2000 to an examiner so that he could answer his supplimentary lab examinations!

How do you think we should solve this problem of bribe in education - in schools and colleges, the temples of learning? Give us your suggestions.
