Poll Analysis | Bribe to transfer expensive goods via railways
Ever paid a bribe to transfer expensive goods through the railways? Our portal I Paid a Bribe received several reports from travellers narrating their experience in which they had to bribe railway officials for possessing expensive goods while travelling. According to the poll conducted by us, 68% of respondents said No while 32% of them said Yes.
One of our respondents, travelling from Kolkata to Bangalore described his experience in which he had to pay Rs.500 to obtain a gate pass to be allowed to collect his expensive luggage. He reportedly paid a bribe of 100 rupees each to 5 agents to be allowed access to something that belonged to him. “The total legal cost of bringing the luggage from Kolkata to Bangalore was 500. But I had to pay the same amount as bribe to get a mere gate pass” said the respondent.
Paying a bribe to transfer motor vehicles from one state to another is another common complaint we receive on our website. An example to substantiate the statement is a report posted on our site in which a person paid Rs700 to release his bike that he shipped from Goa to Mumbai.
