An Unfair Bribe
“On 21st of October the police said that the tenant will vacate on 24th of October but on that day when my mom went upstairs and asked him why he is not vacating from the house he pushed my mom from upstairs. So we complained to police and they again made an inquiry during the process finally they got it in written from the tenant stating that he will vacate on or before November 10th 2012. Finally he vacated 9th November 2012 and police called us for the final settlement of advance , so calculated the final settlement and we came to 11000 Rupees to the tenant. In the police station the Female Sub-inspector of Police threatened us stating if you do not pay me 17000 as settlement I will file a case in court and lock your house until you get the judgement so we are forced by the Sub inspector of Police and the tenant to pay 17000 rupees.”
The helpless respondent from Chennai narrates his plight of having paid a bribe to get his tenant vacated. Quite unfair on the citizen, such incidences often highlight how innocent people are forced to pay unnecessary bribe for no mistake of theirs.
