The murky Tatra deal,  Kargil coffin scam, the army ration scam...all involving big names and amounts running into crores.  Mini scams involving smaller sums, which are largely unreported, do take place in the army on a daily basis.

A few of our respondents, drawn from the army or who ink business contracts with them, have come out with some interesting revelations. A soldier from Maldah (in Varanasi) spills out the deal he had to strike to be roped into the Indian Army’s expedition to the Congo region.

Being a jawan (soldier), he was asked to shell out Rs. 5,000 as commission charges for entry into the region’s mission areas. The rate for officers was higher and ranged between Rs 8,000 and Rs 16,000 (http://ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/bribe-army-un).

Another expose from Dehradun spoke of the annual ‘laptop melas’ organised by the Indian Military Academy here for cadets. Leading computer brands are invited to set stall and brand representatives come over to showcase their wares. However, later, the representatives need to handover a free laptop to each of the top officials as bribe for the permit given to set shop here. “I did the same (parting with a laptop) a few months back,” he confesses.

The higher the rank of the officer, the more the misuse of regimental funds! To read  more, access http://ipaidabribe.com/bribe-central/army-bribes-are-called-previlages.
