2.5 years for passport renewal!

Reported on August 23, 2011 from Nashik , Maharashtra  ι Report #31588

I had submitted my passport for renewal at the Thane Passport Office under which Nasik falls. When the papers were sent to the D'Souza Colony, Nasik Police Station for verification, the police neither came to my house nor did they make any attempt to contact me by telephone. The tracking website indicated that the process was awaiting verification so after waiting nearly two months I went over to the Police Station without being called. At first the police denied my papers were there. On the second trip, they asked several irrelevant questions about my family members and why I was not yet married (I was nearly 30 at the time). Ultimately they rejected the application saying I did not live at the residence specified. Later when my mother approached them again through a friend, she was told that even if I waited a hundred years I would not get a passport because it was "too late" - I had apparently not offered them a bribe at the appropriate time!

After two years of this I moved house to Bangalore, reapplied, and got my passport within the stipulated time without any problems or demand for a bribe.
