Forest officials seeking bribe openly
I went to the elephant camp in Dubare in Kashalnagar in Coorg.
The public is charged Rs 10 for entry and Rs 100 for giving a bath to the elephants. There is no charge for feeding the elephants.
However once you go inside, the caretakers of the elephants demand Rs 20 for every feed you wish to give to the elephants.
Shockingly, the forest officials also employ child labour as elephant caretakers.
When I asked why they are asking for the bribe they simply said you have to pay if you wish to feed the elephants.
I saw almost everybody pay 20 bucks as it is a small amount for them.
I also came back to the entrance and reported to the cashier and an accompznying official about the bribe the caretakers were demanding. They seemed to get a share of the collection as they said that the caretakers are not in their scope.
Government is losing money at the cost of corrupt forest officials there.
People are also corrupting the officials by paying the money.
I do not have to mention the officials name as everyone there is a part of this system.
It is a shame
