Sub Inspector Indirectly Threatened for Not Issuing Verification Status
I applied for Re-issue of my Passport, which is due to expire in Aug,14, which was put to Pre-Verification State by the PSK.
The sub inspector who came for verification directly started to talk about my salary and job profile. "Ohh so you work for this company.. Have been to many places abroad.. your salary package must be this atleast"
After finishing all formalities and asking for all the document and witnesses needed, started his stories like
"I saved your day else you would have had to take a leave".
"I have come specially for you from Model Town where I stay"
"It is in my hands whether to have your passport made or not"
"Shall we get the passport issued"
"Do you want passport?"
All this while I pretended ignorant and only said "Thanks" and "I am unable to understand what you mean"
He suddenly got up and left, visibly in anger.
I have been scolded by my family for not bowing and greasing his palms because they fear he might put me in unnecessary trouble and not let me get passport, but I really didn't want to pay bribe. They keep telling me to call him up and talk to him, but it makes me feel that I would end up rubbishing my dignity if I were to bow down.
I do not know what he would do with my file. This is one fear I have everyday and hence keep checking the status online. Its been 4 days since the guy completed verification but the status still says "Awaiting Verification Report", and I am clueless..
As I look back, it makes me wonder, what is the whole point of having the verification process by the police (who is always famous for taking bribes) when the same set of documents have been uploaded on Passport Site, submitted with the application on interview day, verified by 3 levels of officers at PSK. Either they don't trust their people who did verification at PSK, or they don't trust the authorities who issues the documents submitted as proof or is it a known nexus which is allowed to flourish through Police.
