Stolen mobile phone tracked down across 3 states and returned to the owner.

Reported on June 23, 2012 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #32816

Bangalore city. 20 June 2012. I am a visitor.
Walking along MG road, alongside Cubbon Park - talking on mobile phone - asking for directions.
Stopped at Kasturba road signal. To check directions.
A short black man forcefully snatched the phone from behind, jumped over the compound wall and disappeared into Cubbon Park.
Next day, I went to Cubbon Park Police station to file the complaint.
Met Inspector Badrinath. I told him that I am an architect from Bombay, working on a rural development project in Pondicherry. I gave him the IMEI number of the phone.
He showed me the cyber detection systems they had, how they were up to date with the use of technology to solve such cases and promised me that he will trace the mobile phone.
His presence was extremely genuine and very reassuring.
Within 2 months, he called me back to say that the phone had reached him and that I can come and collect it.
The thief was from Bihar who had sold the phone in the grey market to someone in Manipur.
Mr. Badrinath got in touch with the police from the respective states and tracked the phone down.
I did not have to pay a single rupee.
Mr. Badrinath is an extremely respectable police officer.
I am proud to know that such people are present in the Indian police force. It is a bright ********** of hope.
