- I Paid A Bribe

I was forced to pay Bribe to a TTE.. But..
With me and my mom having been sharing a single seat due to the ticket being RAC, I asked the TTE if any seats are empty in the AC 3 Tier coach so that I could do an upgrade.
He did confirm that 2 seats were available, as we sat down and settled the differentials. Once i was about to pay the differential sum, TTE wanted me to pay 200 more as Bribe so that he releases the written up upgraded tickets.. Was very clever. he kept quite all the way until filling in the forms signing it,, and just before handing it over, he demanded the bribe.
I had a debate as usual, as I hate to bribe, I don't bribe, and not to a TTE as until that minute, this to me was one of the most respectful job.. After a quarrel, i had no option but to pay.
I went back home. filed an RTI (Right to Information Act) about why I was charged extra 200 bucks. + another letter to Southern Railway Corruption Cell.
In 1 months time, the TTE came to my house crying with his wife, as he had been given a show cause notice to appear in front of a railway jury and explain why he got the bribe.. If proven, he was to be suspended.
He paid back the 200 bucks, and vowed not to take any bribe from then on.. Unfortunately, as I had to travel back to England, I couldn't follow up further on this..
Moral of the Story - Do Not Bribe.. If you are forced to do so.. Make sure you report it
