I was asked to pay bribe

Reported on December 18, 2014 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #48485

I was entering the MG road from Kasturba Road and erroneously took a right (where there was no right turn allowed - as I was following the traffic ahead of me - a few autos and bikes preceding me had done this)

There was a traffic cop at the far end and he flagged down a few autos and bikes and asked for licenses and indicated that we had entered a road in a wrong way as taking right was not allowed - I don't understand this rule as the road is pretty broad and can be only entered from the side which we entered (one way for other way traffic) and there was no oncoming traffic which will stop us from taking the right turn- incidentally a U turn was allowed on this road but no right turn)

I asked him on how much I had to pay as fine and he indicated that it is 100 rupees, which I paid promptly. He pocketed this money and started walking off. When I asked for a receipt he started verbal abuse and denied to give receipt and also said that my license will be revoked as this was a gross traffic offence. when I objected he became even more abusive on which I asked him to return the 100 rupees paid and send the fine home.

I am surprised by the audacity and the way he spoke.
