Asked bribe to initiate police verification.
- Verification and Certificates
- Paid INR 500
The incident took place at Cloud9 Apartments, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, 201014 at 7:45 in the morning on 16th October 2019. I had applied for my passport. After document verification at the Passport Office, within 2 weeks, the police came for verification without prior information. There were two police inspectors. After checking all the valid documents and inquiries, they asked for a bribe, calling it "FILE CHARGES". I told them that I did not have any cash, to which they responded if I used Paytm. The two were quarreling among themselves because they knew Paytm would prove that they demanded a bribe. Ram Prakash Singh, one of the Police inspectors, gave his Paytm number. They were adamant that they won't go without getting the "FILE CHARGES". They told me that they won't approve my documents if I don't bribe them.
They demanded 1000+ and I have recently started working and all I could do was 500 rupees. I knew it was wrong but there was nothing I could do. I tried calling the number mentioned on the passport website to register complains if anyone asks for a bribe but no one picked up the call. They took the money and went away. I received a message from the passport office yesterday that "Police has submitted Adverse Report for your current address. They took the money and submitted an adverse report because the "FILE CHARGES" didn't meet their expectations.
