Do we really need to pay customs on old electronic items that we have had for years ? Recently in early July 2011 I left my job and returned to India for a short duration of time. I was highlighted as a potential 'candidate' at the Red channel at Mumbai Intl Aiport as I was enquiring about the declaration of currency, and was subsequently heckled by custom officials regarding the multiple electronic goods I had on me despite the fact that I left the aforesaid country on exit; The duty they said was going to be in tune of 2.5-2.75 lacs Indian Rupees and hence I paid them 500 USD in cash and swore never ever to step close to the Red Channel again.
