Every indian national returning from a foreign country
- Police
- Police Harassment
- Paid INR 100
After 40 long hours of travelling one is least bothered about anything else other than reaching home safely.
I reached INDIA around 11.30 in the night, my journey began two days earlier from Mexico and I was really exhausted. Like most returning from a long business trip I had a suitcase for myself, a hand luggage and a laptop bag. After gettin my customs check cleared while I was exiting from the Airport, two policemen standing at the gate stopped me and asked to provide me with the immigration clearnece slip. While searching for the slip one of them started asking me questions pertaining to my trip like what all I have bought and whether the laptop is mine and what all goods I am carrying etc. Since I was within limits on the items one can carry he could not find an excuse to stop me. So instead he starting asking for a tip to let me go. His exact words were ' jaldi sey kuch dey do, aur phir nikalo'. When I resisted he said 'jana hai ki nahi'. Now though I felt ashamed of the act at that instance my physical and mental self was too exhausted/tired that I had to give the policeman 100 rupees to just let me go.
I know I should have acted more responsibly, but the state of affairs is so bad that had I resisted I might have spent the rest of the night packing and unpacking my bag infront of dozen other people.
