I run a manufacturing industry in gummudipoondi area. I pay my excise returns online and submit the receipt of payment to the gummudipoondi excise office every month. All the office has to does is accept my return, stamp it and store it in their recored. And the charges for this is Rs. 3000/- every month. My auditor who is a CA only charges 1250 for filling excise returns every month. Also we need to pay Rs. 100/- to the clerk who stamps our papers. there are more than 2000 companies in gummudipoondi industrial area who file excise returns every month.. the amount of corruption involved in just one office is mind bogling. I tried to complain about the excise office to a senior who is a retired IRS, i wanted to ask for his advice and suggestion on how to tackle this. to my great shock he said it is a normal issue and i should not worry too much about it. i hate to go to my local excise office to file my returns every month, i wish someone raids their office on the 10th of every month which is the day of filing and officially the day of bribe collection and put these people behind bars forever.
