I had a refund of Rs35,000 pending from the last year. After waiting for one year, I enquired about my refund through my CA. The next week, I got to know that IT Dept has imposed a penalty of Rs15,000 on me for invalid HRA claim. I told them that I had already submitted HRA receipts to my company and they have indicated their receipt in the Form-16 provided to me. But they didnt listen. Finally CA told me that they want some money for the refund to be issued. I paid Rs5,000 cash, and the very next week, a demand draft of Rs35,000 reached my home!!
