This is open that the vigilance officer visiting your home asks for bribe of 500 to 1500 for every passport you apply for. I had applied for passport of my Son and Wife. The house is registered in our name, we have all the documents, birth certificates etc. We have been living here in Ghaziabad for past 5 years, but the vigilance officer some Mr. ********** asked for a bribe of 500 per passport, Initially I denied to pay any bribe but then he called me up and asked me to visit the police head quarters at Ghaziabad, stating that there was some problem with the application form. I went there and he asked that you need to give an affidavit that the kid is your kid, I did that I gave him an affidavit but then he asked for the money directly. I had no choice but to give it as I had already wasted 2 days of my work in this.
This is an open secret that to get a passport in India you need to pay these vigilance wala's and even the postman asks for 100 to 200 rupees to deliver the passport.
What a shame.
