New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS) The CBI has recovered Rs.25 crore in cash from Aditya Birla group company's Hindalco office in Delhi as part of its investigations in the coal block allocation controversy, an official said Wednesday.

The money was recovered during searches carried out Tuesday after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and former coal secretary P.C. Parakh on charges of criminal conspiracy and misuse of official position over alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks.

"The CBI has recovered Rs.25 crore in cash from Hindalco office in Delhi. The amount has been handed over to the Income Tax department," CBI spokesperon Kanchan Prasad told IANS.

The CBI had booked Birla as a representative of Aditya Birla Group and his group company Hindalco, one of the biggest producers of primary aluminium in Asia.

The agency had registered a first information report (FIR) and conducted searches in Mumbai, Delhi, Secunderabad and Bhubaneswar.
