And that's how I lost my Scholarship & marks

Reported on March 8, 2011 from Allahabad , Uttar Pradesh  ι Report #32443

I remember this incident so vividly that whenever I remember this I feel frustrated and sad about state of affairs in our country. It makes it even more worse when one finds out how ********** rooted corruption is in our country's administration.

It was year 2002 when I was in engineering college (A top coll in Allahabad). We were awarded scholarship based on various criterion such as merit, family economic condition and caste etc. My name was on the list for a merit scholarship worth 22 thousand, it was a lot of amount for me as my parents struggled to cope with the cost of my studies. When I went to collect my cheque the clerk asked me to pay 2000 for handing over the check, I resisted. He threatened me of cancellation, I RESISTED EVEN MORE.
I came back to hostel and enquired other fellow lame duck students and came to know everyone had collected their checks. I decided to fight back and wrote an application and gathered some more names to make my case stronger, The application was submitted to principal and directors of the college. A huge enquiry started into this because the reputation of insitute was online, somehow Harijan ********** ********** got involved and it was Mayawati's state. The proctorial board committee decided to fire this clerk but he somehow managed to stay as Dean Student affairs was also involved in this racket. Anyhow things were sorted the whole department was reshuffled... When with time, things settled I realized that my name was off the list; My result came and I scored only 25 of 50 in General proficiency. That was the gift I got for being a person who tried to fight corruption - A lost scholarship and 2.5% marks of the semester.

My father scolded me a lot, for being a hero, rightly so. It was also the first and last time I did that... The only satisfaction I had from this whole episode was that I made that clerk kneel before me and beg mercy to application to save his job.... Rest its business as usual. Corruption lives long until we dont fight it.
