Reported on April 17, 2014 from Hyderabad , Telangana  ι Report #40469

I travelled in the wrong direction of the road(to the edge and not dangerously)for about a distance of 20 metres to circumvent a harrowing 3 km stretch travel in the right direction because of lack of a U-turn in that particular road in Madhapur,Hyderabad.A traffic cop stopped me and took my keys and wrote me a challan of Rs.1200 under sections S-177/11 & 184.I told the cop that I was ready to pay the fine but asked the cop to explain me the offences I had commited for being levied such a huge fine. The cop denied the contradiction of the sections he had fined me under and asked me to pay up.Section 177/11 reads " Disobeying traffic signal/No entry/No right/no 'U ' turn" and the fine for which reads "Rs.100 per offence subject to the maximum of Rs. 200 in respect of other offences." Section 184 reads "Dangerously driving/cell phone drive/excess projection load on either side/jumping signal",neither of these offences which I had commited but was fined for.Upon further asking the cop to explain why I was fined for driving dangerously while I was merely driving at a speed of less than 10kmph and was only trying to cross the road carefully, the cop asked me to talk to his constable who was busy letting other offenders(people who had done the same as I,with their cars) go with a bribe of 200-300 rupees.I questioned the SI why he was letting others go with a bribe while they had commited the same offence as I,to which he prompted to me discuss it with his sub-ordinate which indirectly meant giving a bribe.I accepted my mistake and paid up the entire fine, but in reality I deserved to be fined only for the offence i had commited i.e.Rs.100 for going in a One-way.
