I Didn't pay a bribe.

Reported on March 3, 2011 from Surat , Gujarat  ι Report #32519

Once I had parked my vehicle in no parking zone and when i was inside a shop police van came to tow my vehicle.

In surat its a trend that police people generally doesn't tow your vehicle, they would just load your vehicle on there lorry and would wait there for the owner to come. When owner comes, they would ask Rs. 50 (flat rate for bribe of two wheeler and Rs. 100 for four wheeler) to release two wheeler. The penalty is Rs. 100 for which they issue you a receipt and that Rs. 100 goes into the treasury of the government and they charge 50% of the penalty as a bribe.

In my case i prefered to pay Rs. 100 which goes into the treasury of the government rather than to pay Rs. 50 which goes into the account of black money.

But the Paradigm of this is, after paying Rs. 100 which goes into the treasury of government and which should be used for the citizens of India but I had a doubt that even if I have paid Rs. 100 but whats the guarantee that this would not be used further for the corruption by the politicians of India. And this question still remains. But still I don't prefer to pay bribe.
