I dint pay bribe for expired vehicle insurance
I was travelling to office on my bike and was asked to stop by traffic policemen standing besides the road. I was asked to show all relevant papers like license, registration, insurance etc. I showed them the same. But it was brought to my notice that the insurance had expired a month back, which i hadn't noticed until then. I was not explicitly asked a bribe but was just asked 'what are you going to do?'. I made up my mind that i am going to take a challan rather than pay a bribe. I felt satisfied with my actions. But i must admit that i had and have (after this incident) paid bribe to traffic policemen on atleast 2-3 occassions, which when i reflect on, feel bad about.
Though i have not misused this bribe-taking culture (as i have never deliberately committed any breaches) but i am sure there are many who deliberately break rules as they have the cushion of bribing/corruption at various levels to exploit. This is most times than not, is a life or death matter for not only the perpetuator but also others who use the roads. So corruption on the whole should be taken strict cognizance of, otherwise our country is never going to grow, leave alone attaining a global player rank on any discipline.
