Stood firm and did not pay bribe at service tax office

Reported on September 11, 2012 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #31213

I was called upon by a service tax officer for delay in paying service tax for couple of quarter by mistake. He said he is authorized to force a penalty and then started his standard negotiation tricks of I could pay less provided I support him. What the officer tried to do is to create a situation which caused a huge factor to worry and then he would ask for bribe to waive off the penalty. I stood firm and told him that I would pay the dues. For some time he troubled me but over a period of 2 months he let me go with out any penalty. In essence - I feel if we stand firm and fight back with honesty we can get bribe out of our system. Good luck.
