Truth prevailed, Corruption lost.

Reported on October 28, 2013 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #37004

Last year when I was returning from Dubai, I was having a 40 inch LED Samsung T.V. At Dubai itself the store I bought from suggested that if you pay Rs.500/- to 1000/- nobody will bother you at Mumbai customs, this is the norm or they will harass you.So determined was I that made up my mind I am not going to pay.My baggage was scanned in detail, immediately the custom officer informed me that I will have to pay duty without asking me for a bill .

As I was aware of the rule that you are allowed to bring in stuff worth Rs.35000/- duty free which I proved him by showing the bill in Dirhams the value came to Rs.24000/-, he initially refused saying that the value is much more as per Indian prices. We had an argument then he started calculating each & every item like chocalates, clothes, toys so that he could arrive at the magic figure beyond Rs.35000/- ( to trouble me of course as he realized that I am not going to give in) . He did arrive at a figure of Rs.32500/-.After this he just asked me to go.

Truth prevailed, Corruption lost. What is important to learn from the above is remain calm, look them in the eye , show tremendous confidence. Carry bills, don't get intimidated by these uniformed crooks, you are not the criminal, they are & prove it to them. You got nothing to lose. - Jai Hind Jai Bhartmata Sagar Mehta
