There is no need for payment of road tax and re-registration in Karnataka, if you are only a temporary visitor. Even if you permanently shift your residence, you can continue with the Pondicherry number for one year. The problem is that a large number of people in Bangalore register their vehicles in Pondicherry, by paying lower taxes. Therefore, the RTO is naturally suspicious of Pondicherry registered cars. I would advise you to carry evidence of your permanent residence in Pondicherry, so taht you can avoid harassment by the police in Bangalore.

Hi Raghu, I am from the Pondicherry State(PY-03). I travel extensively on account of work. But approximately 1 week in every month i will be spending in Bangalore. About 2/3 weeks in Pondicherry. I also travel to cochin and Calicut in Kerala. My office is in Bangalore. My car is registered in Pondichery(as i dont have any address proof any where else. except for a bangalore Mobile number). Every time i travel in Bangalore the Traffic cops tell me that i have to get my Car registred and Tax paid in Bangalore. But i am worried the same thing would happens when i go back to Pondicherry !!. Please advice what can be done in this situation. What are the rules regarding this. Do i have to pay the Tax in Bangalore ?
