A short wait, but without bribe
I applied for renewal of my passport through ESeva counters in December, 2010. I did not even visit the RPO office. The status was available online to see. The police verification happened within a month. The police officer, who came to verify, probably expected a bribe, but did not ask for it, and did not insist on it. I thanked him after the verification, and left without a word. 3 months after the verification, I got my passport delivered at my house. The postman too probably expected a bribe. But, I didn't offer and he handed over the bribe.
The wait of 4 months was a bit too much for renewal, but I was not in a hurry and did not have to pay a single rupee in bribe.
