In 2012, I had to get my passport renewed; I chose to simultaneously get new (first) passports made for my wife and daughter. For police verification, a constable from Ghaziabad Police came to our home in October 2012; initially he demanded Rs 5,000.00 per passport as"apnaa kharcha paani aur afsaron ka adhikaar". Since I required the passports to be made quickly, I had to negotiate the amount and bring it down to total amount of Rs 2000.00 (for 3 passports combined)- I had to ultimately pay the agreed amount of Rs 2000 to get the necessary verifications for the passports to be prepared. Little more than 3 years down the line, I don't remember the bribe-taker's name. The incident took place at my home in Shipra Riviera, Ghaziabad.
