The Cheap Cop
- Police
- Traffic Violations
- Paid INR 28
This is an old incident of bribing the traffic police. But I am still reporting it, cause its still fresh in my mind and also depicts how cheap a traffic police can get.
I was in my college and I was in my uncle's scooter. Its usually a busy traffic signal, but that day it was not so busy. I stopped at the Red, but a few feet after the stop line. Out of bushes, from nowhere jumped a police man and he caught me. He kept me standing in the hot sun for a long time and ceased the keys. He told me that this violation will cost me 500Rs in the court and the Sergent will come anytime now to book the case. He asked me to give him some money and leave. As I was in college, I had very little money and I showed him my purse. There were no currency notes, but some coins. He took out all the coins and counted them. It added upto 28Rs. Remember there were no 5 Rs coins at that time. He still took the coins and if he had left me at that moment, I would have forgotten that issue. But instead he started advising me about traffic rules and violations as if he is a good cop.
After a total 30 minutes of ordeal he gave me the keys and I went home laughing to myself. I had a 100 Rs not hidden in the wallet ;)
But cops like him are worse than beggers. They deride the face of Police department. Unless such worms are dewormed, our society will always be a part of Third world nation.
