Din mien mat chalao yahan Gaadi warna aise hi paise bharte raho

Reported on April 7, 2011 from Thane , Maharashtra  ι Report #9726

I was waiting on a traffic signal and one traffic policeman came to me and said that the front number plate of my car has got rust and its not as per the specifications. I know it was not that bad but he came to me by seeing the number plate of other state only. He sat in the backseat of my car and asked me to park by roadside. I have shown him all the required documents like original license, Registration Card, PUC and Insurance but he told me to pay Rs 2800 (including Rs 300 for rusted number plate) as fine as I was driving in other state. I heard very first time from only that its not legal to drive vehicles of other state's registration in Mumbai.

I bought my car from my hometown Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and took with me whenever I transferred to different cities, first to Ahmedabad, then to Indore (No issue within MP), then to Chennai and finally to Thane, but I never got in such kind of trouble because of regitration number.

I didn't have much money that time so he shown me the ATM to get the money leaving him in the car, after too much pleases, excuses, arguments he got ready for Rs 1000 to leave me without fine (even he filled the fine slip of his book and took my signature on it but later he destroyed that slip)

When I told him that I am a software professional and I have to travel a lot of cities for my work and I can't transfer or register my car in every state, he said, "yeh Mumbai hai, yahan din mien yeh gaadi mat chalao, warna aise hi fine bharte rahoge"

And he went away leaving me helpless in the situation...
