I work for an american based MNC and work at nights. As always, I was headed from home to my office at Madhapur at around 11pm. Being a sensitive area, there's police checkpost at the Mindspace Circle. A law and order policeman stopped me and asked me for my papers. I showed everything but didnt have the vehicle pollution papers. I had given my bike for servicing earlier in the day and had forgotten to put those papers back in their place. I offered to go home and get them but the policeman said that I'd have to wait for the 'bade saab' who would come on his patrol in 30 minutes. He was trying to intimidate me while he was speaking by using very rough language. I sat down and was going to wait for the patrol car so I could pay the challan and leave. After 5 minutes the cop told me that if I paid some 'chai paani ke paise', I can go now instead of being booked for not having papers and have my vehicle impounded. I know he was bluffing but I didnt have any time to spare as I was already running late because of the check point. I paid Rs.150 (I would have paid 20 but unfortunately, he saw my wallet when I opened it and saw the money I had. He took all of it and wouldnt have it otherwise). So there you go, robbed by legalised bandits a.k.a. police who are supposed to protect us. And to top it off, what were they doing checking vehicle papers anyway? Isint that the job of the traffic police?
