I visited Mumbai back in 1990. Didn't report to local police station until departure time. Several police officers interviewed my for the delayed reporting and possible consequences (e.g. detention, delay in departure etc.). However, after some honest discussion the police made a report and allowed timely departure WITHOUT seeking a single paisa.

People should be reporting about honest officers/services too.
