I had to go to Vishrantwadi police station in pune for my wife's passport police verification. Its the duty of the policeman to personally come at home and verify the details; however the policeman had phoned and asked us to come to police station. The policeman was kind in filling in the form for us and no wonder he was doing this for Rs 500. My wife application was complete and with all documents. After filling the form the policeman said that the other senior officer is not in station and he would get it signed from him and asked Rs 500 as the fee. I thought for a while and gave a second thought to it and I didn't want to risk the passport verification. I was just trying to avoid giving the bribe and the policeman just said.. "Its upto you to give or not to give Rs 500 and I am not forcing you"; however I understand what was implied with the statement. I had to give him the bribe. Few months later I saw the same policeman riding a black pulsar 180cc and I could see my Rs 500 in that bike :-(.
