This a during the year 2000 when I had applied for Passport. As per procedure, a police man came home for verification. Since I was @ work, my parents informed him the I will in person go to the police station and provide all required details. However, the same police man visited my home again the next day knowing I will not be there. Now is the best part....when I went to the police station for verification, the office who visited my home demanded Rs.100/- as he had to re-visit my home for verification. I paid, but also asked them if it is ok to pay in police station itself, as expected w/o any shame they took it.
