It was a period after 26/11 mumbai attack where people in India were terrified with militants sent from neighbourhood, we got a real terror picture of mumbai police, which claims to be one of the most dedicated police in our country.
I was working as software engg with a firm in Pune and, I had come to ********** my elder brother, who was working with some agencies in nerul,Mumbai where he used to recharge Customer's mobiles with different vendor's coupan. He hardly used to earn 8k per month by doing this job.
I reached mumbai at his work place in nerul and waited till 10 PM, till he completed his job. His agencies owner had given him a bike to commute from room(where he used to stay) to work place. So, after completing his job, we rode with that bike to reach our room.I was sitting pillion and my brother was driving the bike.As We were passing by a dim street, since only few of street lights were operating, suddenly a police men cameout and soughted from left of the road to stop the bike. My brother couldn't able to locate him as a police due to darkness and it took some time before he could apply his break, but by the time some more police men cameout of darkness and over powered him and me. Without asking anything they just started slapping to my brother and me and soughted how dare we couldn't stop even though they asked to do that. I took some courage and tried to talk to police that it was due to darkness and since police also hadn't put any barricade, we couldn't understand anything.They took of our bike key and told get it back from police station. Then they started inspecting our belongings. I told them that I am working with software firm in Pune and showed my ID card.Then they checked my brother's bag. My brother usually keep 2 to 3 handsets which he was using to recharge mobile of customers. Suddenly police men took his all mobiles and started asking why he is keeping so many handsets. They also commented my brother like theif or criminal. My brother pledged to them that this is his job and he used to recharge cutomer's mobile but they didn't listen him. I also tried to talk to some other police men standing there but they kept showing their anger and kept terrifying us. After some time one of the police men came to us and asked to pay 6000 rs, if we want to come out of this case.My brother kept crying due to thinking of paying so much. I took some more courage and told them that we can pay atmost of 1000 rupees only. He tried to bargained by reffering me as software professional. But when I insisted that we don't have more than that, he agreed. I went to the near by ATM to get money and by the time some of Local Colleagues of my brother also reached at the spot. After their persuation and giving a bribe of 1000/- rupees they left us.
On the very that day Police men took bribe from many others by soughting from darkness to stop and chasing them down in case one couldn't comply.
This is the real security mumbai police provides us from theif and burglars by looting from us only.
