No Receipt Book - Pay and forget!
- Police
- Traffic Violations
- Paid INR 500
My motorcycle was been stopped by one of the Traffic Sub Inspector and I was been penalized for not having my Insurance and Emission test papers with me. I agreed that I will produce the papers at the station in a short-while. The officer however issued a notice to me and asked me to produce the papers later and this notice will be cancelled. Later in the same day, while I visited the Police Station with all my valid papers, the officer who issued the notice to me was unavailable but I was been directed to one of the constable who checked my papers and said these were been renewed today and I still need to pay the fine of Rs. 800.00. But I said, if in that case, since it is my mistake I am ready to pay the fine. Then he started searching for Receipt Book and said the existing book is out of receipts and wasted some minutes searching on his table. Then he continued saying, since you have the valid papers, I will cancel this notice but you need to pay Rs. 500.00 instead of Rs. 800.00 (which was the actual fine according to them). I was astonished by the way he demanded. Still I said, I will pay the fine since I was strictly not willing to pay any bribe instead wanted the fine to be paid legally for my mistake. He said that since Receipt book was not available with him at that moment he asked me to pay Rs. 500.00 and forget the issue. I was in a forced situation and feeling. With no other choice and since I wished to end it by paying the fine I had to pay him Rs. 500.00 and walkout highly disturbed by the way these suckers are having fun around us.
