When a government official came to verify my residence before issuing me a passport he demanded cash eventhough he recognized that i was legal resident and was at my place as I stated in passport application. He said if I pay 500Rs it will be said verified and passport will arrive in a two weeks otherwise he will flag my application and send it for additional verificatioin required and will delay my passport for couple of months. At that time I said OKAY and I paid 500Rs to him. My passport arrived in two weeks. I wish I could stand against it. I appreciate the efforts people in india are doing to fight corruption that is present everywhere in the indian system.
