I went to the Sivaigiri registrar office for registaring land sale. I was asked a percentage of the registration value as bribe for registering the transaction. It came around 12000 (twelve thousand) rupees. I refused to pay the amount and immediately i was asked to "correct" some "mistakes" in the document. I got the documents rewritten as per their stated format and corrected all the "mistakes" the registrar had pointed out. The clerks in the registrar office and the document writer told me that the registrar will keep on finding fault and will refuse to register until I paid the said amount. I tried to register the sale without paying the bribe and I couldn't do it even after trying five times. Finally, I negotiated an amount of 5000 as bribe and paid the registrar.
After I paid the registrar, everything went smooth and I got my registered documents in 3 days.
