Redevelopment of old Buildings of Co-operative Housing Societies in Maharashtra

Reported on July 13, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #6472

The subject mentioned is turning out to be a big fodder ground for corruption and using the corrupt system to misuse the govt machinery and lack of public awareness about the legal provisions and its implementation - i.e. Sec 79 A directives under Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act,1960 and the rules. The process suggested is misrepresented to the benefit of the builders/developers by many managing Committee members in Mumbai to the detriment of the interest of its own members.
In fact there are many examples of housing societies who are victims of such bad practice - they have as good as lost their much cherished flats/houses due to the evil designs of such dubious practices. Due to steep rise in real estate prices , the land being scarce in Mumbai , prime plot owned by Co-opeattive Housing Societies are falling prey to such wrong designs. There is a urgent need to make citizens aware of this and work out suitable processes to safeguard the citizen interests. -
