I had applied for passport at Thane office my papers were sent to Police Station, ********** near Railway station for verification, I waited almost for a month to recieve an intimation from the Police Dept. but got no intimation finally checked on passport office site and found out that papers were at the police station for verification. I approached the concerned dept and they asked me fill in certain forms asked for originals etc and finally took me that evening to the Sr. incharge , he verified the papers and signed them. The papers were once again forwarded to the dept. where they asked me Rs.200 as postage charges to dispatch the passport and told us if not paid it will not be dispatched. Though aware that there are no postage charges to be paid at the Police station we quitely paid the amount not wanting the delay in receiving the passport.
All those in line for verification were asked to pay that amount and these people also paid the amount - saying "De do yaar nahi toh yeh log papers dustbin daldengi ya gayab karenge, kon phie se apply karega passport ke liye , ********** do 200 gaye toh gaye".
