Rs.400 bribe for 3 Jungle Safari tickets in Banergatta
- Forest
- Entry into Park or Forest
- Paid INR 400
Hi, We went as a family of 3 to the Banergatta National Park on Sunday the 20th of May 2012 at 11:00 am. Since we had heard much about the Jungle Safari, that was the main item on our agenda. But they announced at the ticket counter that tickets for the Safari will not be issued till afternoon due to heavy inflow of tourists. So we waited till 12:30 pm and went to the counter again. But they still refused stating the same reason. But it was evident that there should be tickets since they had stopped issuing them at 11:00 am itself and the safari vans should be free. My arguments went in vain. The guy who regulates the crowd signaled me that he could get me the tickets if I was ready to pay "extra".Since I my relatives had come from a far away place, I had no option but to agree to his demand. He immediately called the ticket issuer who was inside the counter and then told me to pay 400 extra. He got the money, went through the side entry and got the ticket from the man inside the counter.
This is clearly a case were the people in the ticket issuing counter at the Bannergatta National Park are cashing in on the heavy inflow of tourists in the vacation time. My friend who went with his family on 19th May 2012 too had to go through the same experience.
Request to take this case forward. Though I could not get the name of those guys at the counter, this malpractice is not a one time occurrence and can be easily seen on any weekend day in the holiday season.
