Sub Inspector Puttachar took Bribe

Reported on December 5, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #29468

My cousin had to file a complaint for theft of his debit card. He asked me to accompany. As it's evening at 7 many suggested us not to go to police staion, 'coz police would be drunk and it'll be inconvenience. It's shocking to hear that, police are meant for our protection and people are affraid to go to them. Then we decided to go in the next day morning. When we went there the constables standing outside were very eager to know the reason for our visit to them. We met sub inspector and infomred them about the our purpose of visiting them. He asked us to get us an affidevit for the same. It took few days for my cousin to get affidevit. With affidevit when we went to the police station in the morning we had to talk to new person in the chair. After explaining everything again in detail. He neglegently asked us to sit and wait. probably he wanted to see if we are affraid/hesitant/scared; if so he must have thought it'd be easy for him to get some money. We patiently waited keep looking at the sub insepctor. He intentionally passing time talking to other officers. After sometime he called us, took our documents, observed it for sometime and asked us to write a complaint. we followed his instruction. We had to wait before he called us again. Then everything was ready. And when we were about leave from the place he shamelessly asked for "FEES". I just had to laugh but from within I's very angry, helpless, shamefull.
We did not have courage to say no and we paid 50/-. He asked for 100/-. I told him we already ahve lost our money to convince him. It took few days for me to come out of this incident.
