Traffic constable at Shahpura asked for Rs 500 for a seat belt violation

Reported on August 9, 2013 from Jaipur , Rajasthan  ι Report #35163

I and my family were driving from Jaipur to Delhi on NH8. Around 4 PM, We were flagged down by a traffic constable on a checkpost in Shahpura , about 50 kms after Jaipur . The guy asked for Car's papers and without answering why I was stopped, he simply took the papers inside the chowki closeby. Then he came back and asked me to go inside.

Inside the Chowki, Constable Shivcharan started making a challan without asking me why he was making it. Only after asking 5-6 times he answered that he was making a challan for passenger side seat belt violation. As i was ready to pay the fine, i asked him weather, I can pay the fin on the spot and get a receipt. He said No, you have to take the challan to a local court ( which is about 150 kms from my home town) and get back you car documents from there.

Then I asked him that it doesnt make any sense for me to drive down all the way back, he said, pay INR 500 now and we will not make a challan. and as I was with Family, I had to pay the amount
