Ever since the Regional passport officer at Chennai was arrested on bribery charges last year, the new RPO has tightened all processes. As a result there is a severe backlog of applications. People have experienced immense delays even in Tatkal applications and worse the staff is so overwhelmed that they are unable to provide a status. I had to get a passport issued for my child and the uncertainty of the whole process meant that an agent with connections was able to push thru the application. I can't wait for TCS to take over the front office work for the Ministry of External affairs..
