Airport Customs not wanting official duties

After a delayed/diverted flight ( mroe 12hrs late) from NewYork to Delhi instead of Chennai, the customs department at Delhi Airport pulled me over with baggage asking for bribes. I just had few gifts ( watches/headphones/portable CD palyers for family) within the official sacntioned limits. I told them I had bills and these are within legal limits. But the Officer and constable withheld my baggage and refused charge official duties eventhough I said I will pay legal fees if any. Waited for 3hrs but finally got frustrated and did not want to miss my connecting flight to Chennai and had to part with US dollars and INDIAN rupees equivalent to $2500. They did not want Indian currency..rogues... No wonder educated officers are crooks and Delhi sucks the most in official corruption. Chennai and Mumbai airports are atleast not so fleecing in my experience many times so far.
