Duty/Bribe paid for Duty Free Purchases.

• Customs, Excise and Service Tax
• Customs Check and Clearance
• Paid INR 3,000

I was returning back from Dubai with my family on 6th April. While leaving the Dubai Airport we had bought 1oz of gold from the Duty free shop. When we arrived at Mumbai Airport, we were asked by the customs officials whether we purchased any jewellery.
We reported our purschase and customs official informed us that it is subject to duty and I will have to pay the same.
Inspite of the argument that I made that I had made the purchase from DUTY FREE SHOP and despite showing him the bill for the same I was asked to pay the duty on the same which he said would be around 10000 Rs.

And if i didnt wish to pay the it officially he can take care of the same with Rs 5000.

According to them, duty free is only duty free from the country where you buy and use it. If you buy from Dubai duty free you need to pay duty in India and vice versa as per them.

He called a police officer standing nearby who took me to the washroom where I had to pay him with whatever money that I was left with - Rs 3000.

Everyone at the airport seems to be corrupt, even the police officials. Cant even take risk of complaining about them to the Police, since they themselves were involved in this.
