Paid bribe for the TV I carried from Singapore.
- Customs, Excise and Service Tax
- Customs Check and Clearance
- Paid INR 4,000
I was working as software engineer in Singapore. As most of the people aware of LED costs at singapore are comparitively very less, infact it is half of price in India. So I decided to carry one for my newly constructed home and it was costing me around 29 thousands Indian rupees. I was having full proofs , receipts, bank statements as supporting proofs. I was asking them I'm ready to pay tax for extra amount that is for 4 thousands (As Rs. 25,000 is allowed as per govt rules). But customs officers they were demanding to pay 15 thousands as tax saying it costs 70,000 in India. Finally I asked them to detain the TV so that I can collect tomorrow making this issue little public. One of the officer call me aside and asked me to pay 7,000 and he'll manage others. I said, I can't and I was fighting with them for more than 45 Mins, finally I give up my try and paid 4,000 un willingneslly to the officer. I know I was not happy with what I was doing, but I was really option less that time as my family waiting outside for time. That was the time I realized, a poor indian can't do anything better than decreasing the bribe amount.
